Information and Assistance

I&A is a telephone or “walk-in” service which older persons and their family members can access to find out about programs and services available to them in their own communities and/or to get assistance with emergencies or critical situations. I&A operators can quickly refer a caller to an appropriate agency, private service provider or other resources capable of addressing their needs.

Each area agency on aging provides an Information and Assistance service. You do not need to be an Idaho resident to use this service, simply call the Area Agency on Aging in the Idaho region for which you need information.

Return to top of pageOutreach

The Outreach Program identifies older persons in the community who are in need of, but not receiving, services or other benefits which are available. Outreach workers make home visits, conduct preliminary assessments of the potential client’s needs and circumstances, and give information about aging programs and services currently available in the community. They may also make referrals to appropriate service providers.

If you know of an older person in your community whom you feel needs assistance or could benefit from being given information about aging programs and services, call the Area Agency on Aging in your region and request that the individual’s name be given to the area’s Outreach worker. You may also refer the individual through the Area Agencies on Aging’s Information and Assistance Program.

Return to top of pageTransportation

Transportation assistance is available for older persons who have no other means of getting to and from senior meals program sites, medical appointments or other necessary destinations. For information about specific transportation services available within your region, call your Area Agency on Aging.
