The 65 and over population will grow from 16.6 million in 1960 to an expected 78.9 million in 2050.Demographics of Aging

Approximately 16% of Idaho's current residents are 60 years old or older. Persons aged 85 and older constitute the fastest growing segment; their numbers are increasing five times faster than those of the state's total population (all ages).

Because the youngest of the "Baby Boom" generation will have attained senior citizen status, by the year 2020, about 25% of the population of Idaho, like that of the nation as a whole, will be aged 60 or older!

2004 Census projections estimate that by the middle of the 21st Century, nearly 87 million Americans will be at least 65 years old.
