BIO:

Dr. Oliver is a professor of Social Work at Northwest Nazarene University. She has been at NNU since 2001. She received her Ph.D. in 1977 from Washington State University, her master's in social work from Fresno Statue University in 1968, and her BA in Social Welfare in 1957 from California State University.

Dr. Oliver's roots in Idaho are well known. When she accepted a position at Boise State University in 1972, she became Idaho's first African-American professor. At BSU, Dr. Oliver and her students completed foundational research on African-American history in Idaho, launching the early development of what was previously untold Idaho history.

Dr. Oliver has been recognized as a distinguished citizen by the Idaho Statesman and as one of ten outstanding women in Idaho by the Idaho Chapter of the March of Dimes.

She has received a Jefferson Award for Outstanding Public Service Benefiting Local Communities.

In 2004, she received the Women of Today and Tomorrow Award from the Girl Scouts of Silver Sage Council in Boise.

In 2005 she and her late husband Dr. H. Lincoln Oliver, were inducted into the hall of fame by the Treasure Valley Branch of the NAACP.

In 2006 she was honored as a Women Making History by the Boise State Universities Women's Center.

Dr. Oliver was the recipient of a Congressional Award in 2007 for community service by Senator Mike Crapo.

Dr. Oliver was appointed by Governor Evans to chair the first Martin Luther King, Jr. Task Force, and by Governor Kempthorne to serve two terms on the governor's Coordinating Council for Families and Children.

She is the founder and Executive Director of the Community Ministry Center (TVCCSA Inc.).

On the personal side, Dr. Oliver and her late husband, Dr. Lincoln Oliver, have two adult children and two grandchildren.
